Deer Class

Welcome to Deer Class

Welcome to our Class

Welcome to Deer Class! Deer Class teacher is Ms Bibi and I am also the Literacy Lead within the school.  The other adults within Deer Class are Mrs Tellwright, Mrs Wakeley and Mrs Hall.

This year Deer Class will explore many topics in school. In Autumn the children will learn about the countries and continents across the world from Pole to Pole. In Spring they will learn about Artists from the past, their magnificent work and interesting life. During Summer they will learn all about our Wonderful Earth, how it was created, the animals that live there and all about minibeasts. The children are going to have so much fun in school this year!

If you would like to speak to me please telephone the school office or message me on Class Dojo. I will get back to you as soon as possible.

General Information

Here you will find information about what is happening in Deer Class this half term e.g. events we are running, PE, Forest School, trips etc.

*School starts at 8:45am so please be ready to join us for a fun filled day!

*Online Books and Book Bag books are issued to children on Monday –

The Online Book is the book that they will be reading in school to them to develop their early reading skills. This book can be accessed via the Oxford Owl log in that every child should have. If your child does not have this log in or has lost it please ask me for a replacement.

The Book Bag book is the book that supports the book they are working on in school and the online reading book. It helps the child practise the same sounds as the online book yet in another story. The Book bag book should be returned to school by the following Monday in order to be reissued with the next Book Bag book. As these books are not that strong we ask kindly if you could keep them within your childs purple reading folder and always return them back to the folder once they have been read. We encourage the re-reading of both the Online Book and Book Bag book to help children gain a greater fluency and understanding of the book.

Sharing Books are chosen by your child on a Monday and sent home the same day. These books are to share with people at home to help the children explore different texts and gain a pleasure for reading. The sharing books are then returned and changed on the following Monday.

  • Reading Folders should be brought into school every day. It is hoped that parents listen to their child read at least 3 times a week – please record this within their Reading Records. If children read additional books of their own, the sharing books, library books etc. these can be recorded within their Rocket into Reading booklet where children can gain certificates by travelling across planets. When they reach the Sun they get to choose a brand new book of their choice and this is shared with the whole school in the assemblies!!

*PE kits need to be brought into school in Mondays and kept in school for regular use. For special events children may be asked to wear a T-shirt of their House Colour – this will be the same colour they represented in Year 1. If you are unsure please ask me and I can remind you of this.

* Forest school takes place on scheduled Tuesdays and Thursday mornings. Please look out for the dojo message reminding you to send your child in with their wellies and waterproof.

*Muddy Club also takes place on scheduled Wednesday afternoons and takes place in groups. The children in Year 2 have been grouped into 3 groups (sunflowers, bluebells and snowdrops). I have put a stick on your child’s reading folder to remind you which group they belong to. Keep a look out on dojos for a reminder to send your child in with their wellies and a waterproof for these afternoons.

*Children are required to bring a water bottle to school each day filled with only water.  If you would like to purchase a school branded bottle please visit our school office.

*School ends at 3.15 pm.

*Please let a member of staff know if someone new is due to collect your child from school.  We cannot send a child home unless we are sure it is safe to do so.

*Homework will be issued on Fridays via the school website. Access the spelling homework via the spelling tab within Deer Class parent area and the maths and topic homework via the homework tab in the same area.

Please also take a look at our Behaviour Policy for more information about our Golden Rules and behaviour strategy in school.

NB. These subheadings are just a suggestion. This is your class page, you can arrange it how you want. Think of all the information that you repeat over and over again and post it here. Treat it like a year long noticeboard that you can point people at.
Don’t use it for updates or to show class photos, that’s what the ‘post’ system does.

Consolidate this learning by playing this game:

This week we have been learning about the Olympic Games and it’s history. We have created timelines, posters and even some sculptures/pop art!

Next week we are learning more about the country our class is representing:

Deer Class – United States of America (USA)

Badger Class – China

Please research these countries by exploring them upon a map, finding out about climate, traditions, food and even significant figures and show your findings in any way you please eg. poster, presentation etc.

This week we have been using our knowledge of 2D/3D shapes to create athletic sculptures.

Can you use the 2D/3D junk or objects around the house to make an athlete doing his chosen sport. Can your family guess what athlete you have created?

We hope you have fun learning at home!
