This year Deer Class will explore many topics in school. In Autumn the children will learn all about the world and the place we live, they learn about the countries and continents and oceans within our world. In Art they learn about famous Artists like Claude Monet and Georges Seurat and In Science they learn about the Food Chains and Living Things. In Design and Technology they learn about Mechansims and making products.  In Spring they will learn about different people from the past, Newport and contrasting places across the world. In Science we look at materials and how plants grow. In Design and Technology we are learning how to make picture frames and in Art we learn our sketching skills. During Summer they will learn all about our Wonderful Earth, how it was created, the animals that live there and all about minibeasts. In Science we learn about the New life and how to stay healthy. General Information

Here you will find information about what is happening in Deer Class this half term e.g. events we are running, PE, Forest School, trips etc.

*School starts at 8:45am so please be ready to join us for a fun filled day!

*Online Books and Book Bag books are issued to children on Monday –

The Online Book is the book that they will be reading in school to them to develop their early reading skills. This book can be accessed via the Oxford Owl log in that every child should have. If your child does not have this log in or has lost it please ask me for a replacement.

The Book Bag book is the book that supports the book they are working on in school and the online reading book. It helps the child practise the same sounds as the online book yet in another story. The Book bag book should be returned to school by the following Monday in order to be reissued with the next Book Bag book. As these books are not that strong we ask kindly if you could keep them within your childs purple reading folder and always return them back to the folder once they have been read. We encourage the re-reading of both the Online Book and Book Bag book to help children gain a greater fluency and understanding of the book.

Sharing Books are chosen by your child on a Monday and sent home the same day. These books are to share with people at home to help the children explore different texts and gain a pleasure for reading. The sharing books are then returned and changed on the following Monday.

  • Reading Folders should be brought into school every day. It is hoped that parents listen to their child read at least 3 times a week – please record this within their Reading Records. If children read additional books of their own, the sharing books, library books etc. these can be recorded within their Rocket into Reading booklet where children can gain certificates by travelling across planets. When they reach the Sun they get to choose a brand new book of their choice and this is shared with the whole school in the assemblies!!

*PE kits need to be brought into school in Mondays and kept in school for regular use. For special events children may be asked to wear a T-shirt of their House Colour – this will be the same colour they represented in Year 1. If you are unsure please ask me and I can remind you of this.

* Forest school takes place on scheduled Mondays. Please look out for the dojo message reminding you to send your child in with their wellies and waterproof.

*Children are required to bring a water bottle to school each day filled with only water.  If you would like to purchase a school branded bottle please visit our school office.

*School ends at 3.15 pm.

*Please let a member of staff know if someone new is due to collect your child from school.  We cannot send a child home unless we are sure it is safe to do so.

*Homework will be issued on Fridays via the Class Dojo App.

Please also take a look at our Behaviour Policy for more information about our Golden Rules and behaviour strategy in school.

Curriculum Planning

Please see the Curriculum Web below to see the types of things the children will be learning in the Autumn Term.

NB. These subheadings are just a suggestion. This is your class page, you can arrange it how you want. Think of all the information that you repeat over and over again and post it here. Treat it like a year long noticeboard that you can point people at.
Don’t use it for updates or to show class photos, that’s what the ‘post’ system does.
